Hellooooo lovebirds!!!! Planning a wedding can be A LOT and there can be questions with answers out there you never even knew to ask! So I’ve tried to beat you to the chase a bit and rounded up some FAQ’s couples have asked me when choosing their wedding flowers. Whether you’re knee-deep in Pinterest boards or just getting started, these answers will give you the clarity (and confidence to find the right floral designer for your wedding day!
What should we expect to spend on wedding flowers?
Floral Budgets can vary depending on your vision and guest count, but my minimum order starts at $2,000. This insures that at the bare minimum we are collaborating on a project together that reflects the creativity and premium floral varieties that are the foundation of our work! Most of my couples invest between $5,000 and $8,000 for a full service day and my couples that want to make little to no sacrifices with floral at every turn should begin to expect a minimum investment of $10,000. If you’re unsure about your budget just reach out! I’ll help you prioritize key areas (like that jaw-dropping ceremony arch or statement bouquet) to make the most out of your investment.
Do you have set packages?
Nope, we only offer custom proposals (more on this process down below)! Every Iowa wedding couple we work with is planning a day that is unique to them. Wedding colors, guest counts, and floral aesthetic will always be a little different, therefore each proposal is a little different too.
Is it true flowers are more expensive just because i’m buying them for my wedding?
This rumor circulates every so often and it makes sense how people can be confused on this one, but the answer is NO! Weddings simply just require more work and will always use different flowers.. The time we spend together fine tuning your plans, the logistics managed, the containers sourced, and more influence your budget. Higher quality blooms that are watched over and manipulated so that they appear at their peak of life cycle for your big day also need to be carefully maintained to remain that way from the morning of set up to the end of the night.
Why should we hire a professional floral designer instead of diy?
There is nothing impossible about DIY’ing your own wedding flowers and I totally get the temptation, but wedding flowers are a whole different ballgame. As a professional florist, I have access to unique and high quality blooms with my wholesale and local Iowa flower farm connections that you just can’t get at Sams Club or Trader Joes raids ( not to mention the logistical knowhow I’ve gained from executing 100s of Iowa weddings). You have enough on your plate planning your wedding, trying to pack YEARS of experience and education into this small window is no joke! Leave the flower magic to me and I’ll execute your dream wedding flowers so you can enjoy every moment with your partner, friends, and family without putting them to work!
what does it look like to work with you?
Here’s a breakdown of my process:
Consultation: We’ll start with a one-hour consult where I get to know you, your style, and your wedding vibes. I’ll also ask for any inspo photos you love and estimated quantities.
Custom Proposal: Within 5-7 days, I’ll send you a detailed visual proposal complete with floral recipes, inspiration boards, and an itemized quote.
Booking: Once you’re ready to move forward, I’ll request a deposit and signed contract to secure your date.
Communication: We’ll work together and communicate via our shared document to stay up to date with tweaks. Nothing needs to be set in stone until 30 days out.
Final Meeting: Here we will go over each page of your proposal and finalize quantities, varieties, and day of timelines.
Wedding day magic: On the big day, my team and I handle everything - delivery, set up, and installations. If you’d like, we can even stay through your ceremony and come back at the end of the night to clean up and collect our rentals so you don’t have to pack them up and bring them back.
how far in advance should we book you?
I think the sweet spot to reach out to your Iowa florist is about 9-12 months in advance. Because we focus on larger projects, our weekends often close quickly- especially for spring and fall dates. Once you’re within a year out from your date, you have more answers to the questions florists need and your florist will have a better idea of the ever changing flower pricing and availability for that year.
what is your specialty design style?
Bespoke / garden style / organic / whimsical. I lean into natural textures, unexpected color palettes, and a mix of unique floral varieties to make your wedding feel anything but basic. Whether you’re dreaming of whimsical, wildflower arrangements or lush garden - inspired bouquets, my goal is to craft something distinctive that reflects your personality and leaves your guests saying, “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this before!”
what does it mean that you’re a foam - free studio?
Being a foam-free studio means I don’t use floral foam (a green, sponge-like material often used to secure flowers. Why skip it? Traditional foam is full of chemicals and isn’t biodegradable or healthy to handle- which doesn’t sit well with me or the planet.
Instead, I rely on sustainable techniques like reusable mechanics, chicken wire, and water-based systems that keep your flowers hydrated and happy without the waste. So not only do you get stunning arrangements but you also get the peace of mind knowing your wedding blooms are eco-friendly. Its the least we can do to thank Mother Nature for the beeeeautiful gift of flowers :)
how did you become a florist? How many weddings have you done?
I graduated from flower school in 2018 where I was classically trained not only the art and principles of floral design, but I studied things like color theory and the wedding traditions of all cultures so that I can execute anything a client may need. After flower school I spent years working as a designer and creative director for a luxury floral design studio where we would pump out up to 5 weddings a weekend with our small team however I always knew I had a passion for 1 on 1 work with clients where I could commit my energy into every little detail of your wedding flowers so that I can make sure your wedding flowers are just as cool as you are!
In 2023 Unhinged Floral was born and we’ve been creating bespoke designs for couples crazy in love ever since!
